The Opportunity:
As an Academic Counselor, you will guide students through academic planning and post-secondary pathways, helping them make informed decisions about course selection, university applications, and future opportunities. This role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting student success and aligned with the IB philosophy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide academic guidance to students from Grade 8 through Grade 12, supporting course selection and pathway planning.
- Advise students on IB MYP and DP pathways, graduation requirements, and academic progress.
- Guide students through the university application process, including timelines, essays, and submission requirements.
- Collaborate with teachers, coordinators, and leadership to support student success and academic planning.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with students, families, and school stakeholders.
- Facilitate parent information sessions and workshops on academic and post-secondary planning.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to student guidance and applications.
- Stay updated on global university admissions processes and post-secondary options.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in counseling, education, or a related field.
- Experience in academic or college counseling, preferably in an international school setting.
- Strong understanding of adolescent development and secondary academic pathways.
- Demonstrated ability to build trusting relationships with students and families.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Commitment to confidentiality, ethical practice, and student well-being.
Preferred
- Master’s degree in counseling, education, or a related field.
- Experience with the IB curriculum and US Common Core standards.
- Familiarity with university admissions processes in multiple countries.
- Experience with student-centered decision-making and reflective practice.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with diverse stakeholders.
