Accountant - Tax and Treasury role available at a school in West Berkshire.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking an experienced and professional Accountant - Tax and Treasury to support the smooth management of the school’s finances. This role involves assisting with budgeting, management accounts, statutory accounts, and VAT compliance. The successful candidate will also provide cover for the Head of Finance and contribute to the school’s financial operations with a high level of accuracy and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain accurate financial records, including purchase and sales ledger work.
  • Prepare and oversee the production of management and statutory accounts.
  • Ensure full compliance with VAT regulations and requirements.
  • Support payroll administration and charity legislation as required.
  • Assist with budgeting and financial forecasting processes.
  • Provide cover for the Head of Finance in their absence.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain a high standard of attention to detail in all financial reporting.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Part qualified or fully qualified accountant with relevant experience.
  • Strong understanding of VAT and VAT accounting procedures.
  • Experience in financial regulation and statutory reporting.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels.
  • Proficiency in financial software and accounting systems.

Preferred

  • Experience in payroll administration and charity legislation.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and financial forecasting.
  • Experience in a school or educational institution setting.
  • Familiarity with financial software such as Sage or QuickBooks.
