Acting Head of Learning Support - Part-Time role available at a school in Edinburgh.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking an experienced and committed teacher to lead our Learning Support Department on a maternity-cover basis. This is an exciting opportunity to shape inclusive practice across the school and support pupils from Primary 1 to Form 8 through early intervention, targeted support, and close collaboration with staff and families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach and support pupils with a range of additional support needs through 1:1, small-group and in-class support.
  • Lead early identification and intervention, including working with P1 and Nursery staff to build profiles of need.
  • Maintain high-quality record keeping, ASN and monitoring lists, and ensure iSAMS information is up to date.
  • Work closely with classroom teachers, parents and external professionals to ensure consistent, effective support strategies.
  • Oversee assessment arrangements, including standardised assessments, access arrangement reports, exam timetables and support for pupils with ASNs during exams.
  • Contribute to pastoral care as part of the pastoral committee.
  • Coordinate timetables and deployment of Learning Support teachers, GAPs, Graduate Assistants and Teaching Assistants.
  • Provide or source staff training to promote inclusive practice across the school.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • GTCS registration (or eligibility to register).
  • Experience supporting children with ASN/SEND.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with staff, parents and external professionals.
  • A collaborative and proactive approach to early intervention and inclusive practice.
  • Ability to prioritise effectively.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading a department or team.
  • Familiarity with school management systems and digital tools.
  • Experience with assessment and exam support for pupils with additional support needs.
