The Opportunity:
The Assistant Director of Science will play a key role in leading and supporting the science faculty, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all Key Stages. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and experienced science professional to contribute to curriculum development, staff training, and the overall improvement of student outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the strategic leadership of the science faculty and drive consistently high standards across all Key Stages.
- Contribute to curriculum development and quality assurance processes.
- Deliver high-quality professional development for science staff based on assessment and performance data.
- Mentor colleagues and support staff development, including the induction of new staff.
- Lead key areas of faculty practice and collaborate closely with the Director of Science and other lead teachers.
- Use data to inform targeted interventions that improve student achievement.
- Deputise for the Director of Science when required and contribute to the ongoing improvement of teaching and learning practices.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience as a science practitioner with strong subject knowledge and excellent classroom practice.
- Experience in curriculum development and quality assurance.
- Ability to lead and support staff development, including the induction of new teachers.
- Strong data analysis skills and the ability to use assessment data to inform teaching strategies.
- Experience in mentoring and coaching colleagues.
- Confidence to deputise for the Director of Science when required.
Preferred
- Experience in leading or supporting professional development initiatives.
- Experience in school leadership or middle management roles.
- Familiarity with Safer Recruitment principles and safeguarding practices.
- Experience with ITT, NQT, or Teach First programmes.
- Knowledge of innovative teaching methods and science education initiatives.
