Assistant Head of Pastoral needed at a prestigious co-educational school. Lead and develop pastoral care with a focus on student wellbeing and leadership.

The Opportunity:
As the Assistant Head of Pastoral, you will play a vital role in shaping and leading the school’s pastoral care strategy. This is a senior leadership position with the opportunity to influence the future of student wellbeing and behaviour management. The ideal candidate will have a strong vision for pastoral care and the ambition to progress to Headship or Deputy Headship.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the pastoral care provision across the school, ensuring high standards of student support and behaviour.
- Chair the Pastoral Committee and serve on the school’s safeguarding team, ensuring compliance with all statutory and internal policies.
- Oversee the induction and training of staff in safeguarding and pastoral matters, and ensure that all staff are up to date with current legislation and best practices.
- Manage Form Tutors and the School Counsellor, providing guidance and support in their pastoral responsibilities.
- Implement and review the school’s disciplinary policies and procedures, ensuring a fair and consistent approach to behaviour management.
- Use pastoral tracking software and maintain accurate records of student concerns and incidents.
- Promote a culture of kindness, respect, and good behaviour across the school community.
- Support the boarding provision and work closely with the boarding team to ensure the wellbeing of all students.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in a senior pastoral leadership role within a school setting.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to work effectively within a Senior Leadership Team.
- Demonstrable commitment to outstanding pastoral care and student wellbeing.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Experience in safeguarding and behaviour management, with knowledge of relevant legislation and policies.
- Ability to manage and develop staff, including Form Tutors and the School Counsellor.
Preferred
- Experience in a school with a boarding provision.
- Familiarity with pastoral tracking systems such as You HQ and MIS platforms like ISAMS.
- Experience in developing and implementing anti-bullying and safeguarding policies.
- Knowledge of working with neurodivergent students and those with protected characteristics.
- Experience in a co-educational setting.
