The Opportunity:

As an Assistant Head of Year, you will play a pivotal role in providing pastoral leadership and driving student success. You will be responsible for managing student behaviour, supporting welfare, and ensuring a positive learning environment. This role is ideal for someone passionate about making a real difference in the lives of students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and manage student behaviour and welfare within the year group, identifying trends and implementing effective interventions.
  • Work closely with the Year Team to ensure consistent application of the school’s behaviour policy.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with students, staff, and parents to support student progress and well-being.
  • Develop and implement strategies to promote a positive and inclusive school culture.
  • Support the Head of Year in managing the pastoral needs of the year group.
  • Provide regular reports and insights on student behaviour and welfare to senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure a holistic approach to student support.
  • Act as a role model for students and colleagues, demonstrating the school’s values and ethical standards.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a pastoral leadership role within a secondary school setting.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • A commitment to co-operative values and a student-centred approach to education.
  • Experience in managing student behaviour and welfare in a school environment.

Preferred

  • Experience in a leadership role within a large or diverse school setting.
  • Knowledge of inclusive education and strategies for supporting students with special educational needs.
  • Experience in leading or contributing to whole-school initiatives related to student well-being and behaviour management.
  • Familiarity with the Co-operative Group values and ethos.
