The Opportunity:

The Assistant Head of Year will play a key role in supporting student welfare, attendance, punctuality, and behaviour management. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on student outcomes and contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Head of Year in managing low-level behaviour concerns and promoting outstanding behaviour across the year group.
  • Promote high standards of punctuality and collaborate with the Attendance Officer to address persistent lateness.
  • Take a proactive role in the welfare and pastoral care of students within the assigned year group.
  • Act as a positive role model, living and modelling the school values of care, character, and academic excellence.
  • Support the Year team to provide outstanding pastoral support for all students.
  • Liaise with parents and monitor selected students through proactive measures, including parent meetings.
  • Focus on improving attendance for students with attendance between 90-95% and identify patterns affecting attendance.
  • Promote excellent standards of behaviour and character across the year group.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in pastoral care, student welfare, and behaviour management.
  • Knowledge of attendance monitoring strategies and punctuality promotion.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • A commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and equality within the school community.

Preferred

  • Experience in a leadership or management role within a school setting.
  • Experience with student ownership and character development initiatives.
  • Familiarity with specialist support for students with hearing impairments.
