The Opportunity:
We are seeking an Assistant Head of Year to support the Head of Year in addressing the needs of students, helping them overcome barriers to learning, and enabling them to achieve their full potential. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about student development and committed to raising standards in achievement, attendance, and behaviour.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Head of Year in managing student welfare, behaviour, and academic progress.
- Work closely with students to identify and overcome barriers to learning.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve attendance, behaviour, and academic outcomes.
- Communicate effectively with parents and carers to support student success.
- Mentor and guide students in a positive and supportive environment.
- Collaborate with teaching and support staff to ensure a consistent approach to student management.
- Monitor and report on student progress and attendance regularly.
- Contribute to the development of school-wide policies and initiatives.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in a pastoral or leadership role within a school setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience in supporting students with diverse needs and backgrounds.
- Commitment to promoting high standards of behaviour and achievement.
Preferred
- Experience in a senior pastoral role, such as Assistant Head of Year or Deputy Head of Year.
- Experience with student mentoring and behaviour management strategies.
- Familiarity with safeguarding and child protection procedures.
- Experience working within a multi-academy trust or similar educational partnership.
