The Opportunity:

As an Assistant Headteacher, you will play a pivotal role in the leadership and management of a school’s pastoral and behavioural strategy. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of education for students with complex needs, working in a supportive and innovative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the pastoral and behavioural needs of students aged 11-16 across multiple form classes.
  • Collaborate with middle leadership, teachers, and support staff to ensure a cohesive and impactful pastoral curriculum.
  • Develop and implement initiatives to improve student engagement and behaviour, including positive behavioural management strategies.
  • Support the delivery of a differentiated curriculum model tailored to the diverse needs of students.
  • Work closely with the pastoral team to ensure the well-being and academic progress of students.
  • Oversee the planning and delivery of enrichment activities and life skills development.
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding and welfare policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the school in line with its vision and ethos.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven senior leadership experience in a school setting, ideally as an Assistant Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher.
  • Experience in managing pastoral and behavioural strategies within a special or mainstream school.
  • Strong knowledge of SEND and the ability to support students with a range of complex needs.
  • Experience in developing and delivering pastoral initiatives and positive behaviour management strategies.
  • Relevant training in physical intervention methods, such as Team Teach.

Preferred

  • Experience in curriculum development and delivery for students with special educational needs.
  • Experience in leading or supporting staff development and training.
  • Familiarity with alternative qualifications such as ASDAN, BTEC, and Functional Skills.
  • Experience in managing school expansion or growth projects.
