The Opportunity:
As Assistant Principal – Attendance, you will lead a whole-school strategy to improve attendance through data-informed interventions and high expectations. This is a senior leadership role with a minimal timetabled commitment, allowing you to focus on strategic impact and collaboration across teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the implementation of the DfE’s latest Attendance Framework, ensuring compliance and best practice.
- Use data to identify attendance trends, inform targeted interventions, and report to senior leaders and governors.
- Drive a culture of high attendance expectations across the school, working closely with pastoral, safeguarding, SEND, and curriculum teams.
- Deliver key interventions such as parental engagement, student mentoring, and home visits.
- Build strong partnerships with external agencies and the Local Authority to support vulnerable pupils and reduce persistent absence.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Demonstrable track record of improving attendance at a strategic level.
- Expert knowledge of attendance policy, statutory guidance, and best practice.
- Ability to lead change, influence others, and hold staff to account.
- Commitment to improving outcomes for all pupils, especially the most vulnerable.
- Experience working with external agencies and leading multi-agency interventions.
Preferred
- Experience in senior leadership roles within education.
- Strong data literacy and analytical skills.
- Experience with attendance improvement frameworks and interventions.
- Background in pastoral leadership or student support.
