The Opportunity:

As the Assistant Principal - English and Literacy, you will lead and inspire the English department and support whole-school literacy initiatives. You will be a key leader in driving academic outcomes and fostering a culture of excellence across the school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the English department to ensure high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve literacy across the school.
  • Coordinate reading interventions and support programs such as Thinking Reading and Fresh Start.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to teachers and support staff.
  • Monitor and address areas of concern to ensure consistent standards in teaching and learning.
  • Oversee the planning and delivery of the curriculum to support student progression.
  • Promote a scholarly and inclusive school culture that supports all students.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in leading a department and delivering excellent outcomes in English.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate staff.
  • Knowledge of effective pedagogy and curriculum design.
  • Experience in implementing literacy programs and interventions.
  • Commitment to raising standards and improving student attainment.

Preferred

  • Experience with evidence-based teaching approaches such as Rosenshine and Teach Like A Champion (TLAC).
  • Background in knowledge-rich curriculum development.
  • Experience in school improvement and leadership within a rapidly improving institution.
  • Familiarity with whole-school literacy initiatives and reading interventions.
