The post is residential, and comes with free accommodation in a shared house with other PGATs. Three cooked meals per day are provided during term time, and the salary is £20,765 per annum.

The Opportunity:

Join a vibrant sports department and contribute to a comprehensive games programme that engages students in a wide range of sports. As an Assistant Sports Teacher, you will play a key role in coaching, teaching, and pastoral care, shaping the next generation of athletes and students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coach up to 11 games sessions per week across a variety of sports including rugby, netball, hockey, cricket, football, and swimming.
  • Lead and support competitive teams, including weekend fixtures, across multiple sports.
  • Assist in the delivery of academic PE lessons, under the guidance of experienced teachers.
  • Act as a co-tutor for a group of pupils, overseeing registration, pastoral time, parent liaison, and report writing.
  • Take responsibility for one evening duty per week in the boarding house and participate in the broader boarding programme.
  • Support absent colleagues across all departments as needed.
  • Contribute to the development and success of the school’s sporting and academic programmes.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Ability to coach at least one of the school’s key sports to a good level, or have appropriate qualifications and experience in strength and conditioning.
  • Demonstrated potential to coach sport to teenagers and deliver pastoral care.
  • Strong academic record, ideally with a degree related to sport or equivalent experience.
  • Commitment to fostering a passion for learning and developing students to their full potential.

Preferred

  • Experience in playing or coaching at a high level, including 1st team participation or coaching in clubs or university settings.
  • Experience in pastoral care or student support.
  • Willingness to commit to more than one year with the school.
  • Ability to contribute to other areas of school life beyond sports.
