The Opportunity:

As an Attendance Officer, you will play a key role in raising student achievement by improving attendance and supporting families. You will work closely with students and parents to address persistent absence and promote a positive attitude towards education. This role is essential in ensuring that all students have access to a full-time education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and monitor student attendance data to identify patterns and trends.
  • Liaise with parents and carers to address persistent absence and support students’ return to school.
  • Conduct home visits and unsupervised contact to assess the reasons behind attendance issues.
  • Prepare reports and documentation for potential legal action in cases of persistent absence.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve punctuality and attendance across the school.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and support services to raise overall attendance rates.
  • Provide guidance and support to students and families to ensure compliance with statutory responsibilities.
  • Contribute to the development of policies and procedures to enhance attendance and educational outcomes.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience in attendance management or a related field.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Understanding of statutory responsibilities related to school attendance.
  • Experience in conducting home visits and working with families.

Preferred

  • Previous experience in education or social care.
  • Knowledge of child protection and safeguarding procedures.
  • Experience in working with vulnerable students or families.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Familiarity with educational improvement strategies and initiatives.
