The Opportunity:
As a Catering Chef, you will lead the daily operations of The Flying Fox catering van, delivering high-quality food and service at events while supporting students in gaining valuable hospitality skills. This role is a unique opportunity to make a real difference in an inclusive and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the day-to-day running of the catering van, ensuring food hygiene, preparation, and service standards.
- Prepare, cook, and serve a consistent and appealing menu aligned with event needs.
- Maintain stock control, ordering, and waste management in line with budget and sustainability targets.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, licensing, and health & safety legislation.
- Operate the vehicle safely and ensure it is clean and roadworthy for each event.
- Provide structured opportunities for students to participate in catering van operations with clear guidance.
- Model excellent customer service and kitchen practices to support student learning outcomes.
- Represent the school professionally at external events and engage with the local community.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Experience in catering, hospitality, or mobile food operations
- Valid UK driving licence (and ability to drive a 3.5 tonne vehicle)
- Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene practices
- Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 minimum)
- Level 2 in English and Maths (or willingness to work towards)
Preferred
- Experience working with or supporting young people or individuals with SEND
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
