Summary:

Class Teacher - Sensory Needs – Year 5 & 6. Support children with complex needs in a nurturing environment.

The Opportunity:

Join a nurturing and specialist setting where sensory approaches are central to teaching and learning. You will support pupils in Years 5 and 6 who have complex needs, including PMLD, autism, and sensory processing challenges. This role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact through creative, child-led teaching.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver engaging, multi-sensory lessons that support regulation, communication, and cognitive development.
  • Adapt the curriculum to meet individual EHCP outcomes, using creative approaches that promote independence and emotional wellbeing.
  • Work collaboratively with families, therapists, and support staff to create consistent and responsive learning environments.
  • Use sensory rooms, outdoor spaces, and therapeutic strategies to enhance engagement and progress.
  • Support children with profound and multiple learning difficulties, autism, and significant medical needs.
  • Implement child-led practice and holistic development strategies.
  • Reflect on and improve teaching methods regularly to ensure the best outcomes for students.
  • Contribute to a team that values innovation, care, and continuous professional development.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in SEND, particularly with children aged 9–11.
  • Strong background in sensory integration and multi-sensory teaching.
  • Ability to design and deliver lessons that support communication and cognitive development.
  • Experience working with children with complex needs, including PMLD, autism, and sensory processing challenges.

Preferred

  • Experience with EHCP outcomes and individualised learning plans.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed approaches and assistive technology.
  • Experience working with children with significant medical needs.
  • Confidence in using sensory rooms and outdoor environments for teaching and learning.
