The Opportunity:

As a Deputy Grounds Manager, you will play a key role in maintaining the school's grounds and gardens to the highest standard. You will support the Grounds Manager in overseeing the team, managing tasks, and ensuring the smooth running of all grounds-related operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Grounds Manager in setting and monitoring team member objectives.
  • Supervise the Grounds and Gardens Team in the absence of the Grounds Manager.
  • Monitor and manage work requests via the Estates Helpdesk system.
  • Maintain and update COSHH records and ensure compliance with Health and Safety requirements.
  • Lead the maintenance of sports pitches and grounds machinery, both in-house and outsourced.
  • Operate a range of grounds machinery, including ride-on mowers, tractors, and spraying equipment.
  • Apply and record the use of chemicals, including insecticides, fungicides, and herbicides.
  • Support staff training and development, ensuring safety and work standards are met.
  • Assist with car parking, trunking, and other duties as required.
  • Collaborate with the PE Department to ensure court setups and changes are completed on time.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent in Horticulture/Grounds Maintenance.
  • Spraying Certificates PA1, PA2, and PA6.
  • CS30/CS31 Chainsaw Qualifications.
  • IOSH Certificate.
  • Strong knowledge of groundsmanship and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and external suppliers.
  • Understanding of Health and Safety legislation and policies.
  • Ability to work independently and in all weather conditions.

Preferred

  • NVQ level 4 or equivalent in Horticulture/Grounds Maintenance.
  • Proven track record in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of landscaping techniques, including patios, fencing, and garden project design.
