The Opportunity:
As a Deputy Head of English, you will lead and support a high-performing department known for outstanding academic results. This role offers the chance to shape curriculum development, drive teaching excellence, and inspire both students and colleagues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate the delivery and quality assurance of the English curriculum across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
- Sequence the curriculum and develop schemes of work aligned with school requirements and national standards.
- Provide expert guidance and support to teachers, sharing best practices and promoting continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure strong cross-curricular links and shared professional development.
- Deliver training sessions to enhance subject knowledge and pedagogical skills across the department.
- Support the Head of Department in strategic planning and the implementation of school-wide teaching and learning priorities.
- Monitor and evaluate student progress and attainment, ensuring consistent high standards in English education.
- Contribute to the development of innovative teaching strategies and curriculum enhancements.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in teaching and leading in English at Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
- Strong track record of improving student attainment and progress in English.
- Experience in curriculum development and leadership within a school setting.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Preferred
- Experience in leading and managing a department or team.
- Familiarity with A-level English Literature, Media Studies, and EPQ.
- Experience in training and developing staff in pedagogical and subject-specific knowledge.
- Demonstrated ability to implement and support new teaching and learning initiatives.
