The Opportunity:

As a Deputy Head of English, you will lead and support a high-performing department known for outstanding academic results. This role offers the chance to shape curriculum development, drive teaching excellence, and inspire both students and colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate the delivery and quality assurance of the English curriculum across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
  • Sequence the curriculum and develop schemes of work aligned with school requirements and national standards.
  • Provide expert guidance and support to teachers, sharing best practices and promoting continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure strong cross-curricular links and shared professional development.
  • Deliver training sessions to enhance subject knowledge and pedagogical skills across the department.
  • Support the Head of Department in strategic planning and the implementation of school-wide teaching and learning priorities.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress and attainment, ensuring consistent high standards in English education.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative teaching strategies and curriculum enhancements.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in teaching and leading in English at Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
  • Strong track record of improving student attainment and progress in English.
  • Experience in curriculum development and leadership within a school setting.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading and managing a department or team.
  • Familiarity with A-level English Literature, Media Studies, and EPQ.
  • Experience in training and developing staff in pedagogical and subject-specific knowledge.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and support new teaching and learning initiatives.
