The Opportunity:

As Deputy Head of Wellbeing, you will lead and shape the school’s approach to pastoral care, safeguarding, and inclusion. This is a strategic and impactful role that plays a central role in fostering a supportive and positive school culture. The ideal candidate will be a forward-thinking leader with a strong vision for student wellbeing and a passion for making a lasting difference in the lives of pupils and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clear, confident leadership in wellbeing, pastoral care, safeguarding, behaviour, and inclusion.
  • Support the Head in shaping the strategic direction and culture of the school.
  • Ensure that all pupils feel supported and thrive, with particular focus on those approaching 13+.
  • Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead, fulfilling all statutory responsibilities.
  • Foster a culture of trust, communication, and collaboration across the school community.
  • Develop and implement policies that promote inclusion, safeguarding, and positive behaviour.
  • Work closely with staff to ensure a supportive and professional working environment.
  • Contribute to the overall leadership of the school and prepare for potential future headship opportunities.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven leadership experience in a senior educational role.
  • Strong background in pastoral care, safeguarding, and inclusion.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in a school setting, preferably in the independent sector.
  • Commitment to pupil wellbeing and safeguarding best practice.
  • Ability to manage a demanding and wide-ranging role with high standards.

Preferred

  • Experience in a Deputy Head or similar senior leadership role.
  • Understanding of the specific needs of students approaching 13+.
  • Experience in teaching, with a maximum teaching load of 50%.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire others at all levels.
  • A track record of professional development and leadership growth.
