The Opportunity:

The Deputy Head of Wellbeing plays a vital role in shaping the school’s culture and ensuring the wellbeing of all pupils and staff. This position offers a unique opportunity to lead in a forward-thinking institution that values strong pastoral care, safeguarding, and inclusion. The successful candidate will contribute to the strategic direction of the school while supporting the Head in creating a positive and supportive environment for all.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership across wellbeing, pastoral care, safeguarding, behaviour, and inclusion.
  • Ensure the implementation of robust safeguarding practices in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education.
  • Support the Head in shaping the school’s culture and strategic direction.
  • Deliver high-quality pastoral care that promotes the emotional and social development of pupils.
  • Champion the needs of all pupils, with particular focus on those approaching 13+.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with staff, pupils, and parents.
  • Oversee the wellbeing of the school community, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Contribute to the leadership development of staff and support the Head in preparing for future leadership roles.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in pastoral care, safeguarding, and inclusion.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and inspire a team.
  • Experience in a senior leadership role within an educational setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to pupil wellbeing and safeguarding best practice.

Preferred

  • Experience in the independent sector.
  • Understanding of the needs of pupils approaching 13+.
  • Experience in a Deputy Head or similar leadership role.
  • Experience as a Designated Safeguarding Lead.
  • A teaching background with a flexible teaching load.
