The Opportunity:
This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for shaping the academic direction of a high-performing school. The Deputy Headteacher (Academic) will ensure that teaching, learning, curriculum, and assessment remain rigorous, engaging, and forward looking. This role is central to sustaining and enhancing academic standards across the school.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop the academic strategy in line with the school’s vision and values.
- Oversee curriculum design, teaching and learning practices, and assessment strategies.
- Work closely with the Headteacher and senior colleagues to maintain and improve academic standards.
- Support the development of staff through leadership, training, and professional development.
- Ensure the integration of digital learning and enrichment opportunities into the academic programme.
- Promote the school’s academic vision to parents, students, and external partners.
- Contribute to the broader leadership of the school and engage actively in the school community.
- Monitor and evaluate academic performance, ensuring continuous improvement and innovation.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in senior academic leadership, with a strong track record in teaching and learning.
- Significant experience in curriculum and assessment leadership.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong leadership and management abilities.
- Commitment to academic excellence, inclusion, and student wellbeing.
Preferred
- Experience in leading a large and diverse academic team.
- Experience with digital learning and innovation in education.
- Knowledge of the UK education system and independent school sector.
- Experience in public speaking or representing an institution to external stakeholders.
