The Opportunity:

As a Deputy Headteacher, you will play a key role in supporting the Headteacher and leading the school’s vision. This is an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students and to shape a supportive, inclusive school culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deputise for the Headteacher and take overall responsibility for the school in their absence.
  • Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and ensure compliance with safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Lead and develop whole school pastoral and personal development initiatives.
  • Support the pastoral team with attendance, family support, and medicines in school.
  • Ensure staff are effectively deployed to meet the school’s strategic and operational goals.
  • Provide the Headteacher with insights into major school issues based on evidence and data.
  • Contribute to the leadership and management of the school, including quality assurance and strategic planning.
  • Promote and maintain a positive, inclusive, and safe school environment for all students and staff.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role within a special needs setting.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in teaching and managing within a SEMH or Autism environment.
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding procedures and experience as a Designated Safeguarding Lead.
  • Demonstrable ability to lead and manage a diverse team of staff effectively.
  • Experience in developing and implementing whole school strategies and policies.
  • Understanding of formal, semi-formal, and informal curriculum approaches.
  • Experience in working with school governors or trustees.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading and managing positive behaviour across the whole school.
  • Background in developing and maintaining community links and partnerships.
  • Experience in turning policy into effective and successful practice across the school.
  • Leadership experience in a specific area or phase of education, including raising standards.
