The Opportunity:

We are seeking an experienced and values-driven Deputy Headteacher to join the Senior School leadership team. This is a pivotal role in shaping academic or pastoral excellence, depending on the candidate’s strengths. The successful candidate will contribute to a supportive, high-achieving environment where students, staff, and the wider community thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee the academic or pastoral programme, ensuring alignment with the school’s vision and values.
  • Champion outstanding teaching, learning, and assessment practices.
  • Analyse academic outcomes, progress, and value-added data to inform strategic decisions.
  • Oversee behaviour, wellbeing, safeguarding, and pastoral systems.
  • Line manage Heads of Faculty or Year, supporting professional development and performance.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and prepare for inspections and audits.
  • Promote a culture of inclusion, innovation, and continuous improvement across the school.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Recognised teaching qualification (Degree plus PGCE or equivalent).
  • Excellent classroom practice with experience teaching to advanced (A Level) standard.
  • Significant leadership and management experience, including at least Head of Department level.
  • Strong evidence of professional development in leadership and management.
  • Proven ability to lead, inspire, and manage teams with strategic vision.
  • High levels of emotional intelligence, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, child protection, and pupil wellbeing.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage a high workload.
  • Commitment to inclusive education and a broad, balanced curriculum.
  • Willingness to fully participate in the wider life of the school.

Preferred

  • Experience in senior academic or pastoral leadership roles.
  • Strong track record of improving academic outcomes or managing complex pastoral systems.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of curriculum developments and public examinations.
  • Experience with data analysis and whole-school performance tracking.
  • Ability to lead academic inspection preparation or safeguarding initiatives.
  • Experience in timetable construction and options processes.
