The Opportunity:

As a Deputy Headteacher, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Headteacher in leading and managing the school. This is a pivotal position that drives high standards of teaching, learning, and pastoral care in a therapeutic environment, ensuring a safe and inclusive space for all students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Headteacher in establishing and sustaining the school’s culture, promoting inclusion, respect, and high expectations
  • Lead curriculum implementation and assessment, ensuring a tailored, balanced, and coherent offer for students with complex needs
  • Implement behaviour management strategies aligned with the school’s policy and trauma-informed practices
  • Collaborate with the SENDCO to ensure effective provision for students with special educational needs and disabilities
  • Assist in operational management, including staffing, resources, and compliance with statutory requirements
  • Represent the school at meetings and events as delegated by the Headteacher
  • Promote a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and parents
  • Model professional conduct and lead teams in line with the school’s code of conduct

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Proven leadership experience in a special school or complex educational setting
  • Strong understanding of Ofsted inspection framework, safeguarding, SEND, and trauma-informed practice
  • Ability to lead and motivate staff, and model professional conduct
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with staff, pupils, parents, and external partners
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child protection policies

Preferred

  • Experience in managing a school or leading a department
  • Knowledge of curriculum development and assessment strategies
  • Experience with pastoral care and behaviour management in a therapeutic environment
  • Experience working with students who have complex needs
