The Opportunity:
As a Deputy Headteacher, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Headteacher in leading and managing the school. This is a pivotal position that drives high standards of teaching, learning, and pastoral care in a therapeutic environment, ensuring a safe and inclusive space for all students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Headteacher in establishing and sustaining the school’s culture, promoting inclusion, respect, and high expectations
- Lead curriculum implementation and assessment, ensuring a tailored, balanced, and coherent offer for students with complex needs
- Implement behaviour management strategies aligned with the school’s policy and trauma-informed practices
- Collaborate with the SENDCO to ensure effective provision for students with special educational needs and disabilities
- Assist in operational management, including staffing, resources, and compliance with statutory requirements
- Represent the school at meetings and events as delegated by the Headteacher
- Promote a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and parents
- Model professional conduct and lead teams in line with the school’s code of conduct
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Proven leadership experience in a special school or complex educational setting
- Strong understanding of Ofsted inspection framework, safeguarding, SEND, and trauma-informed practice
- Ability to lead and motivate staff, and model professional conduct
- Excellent interpersonal skills with staff, pupils, parents, and external partners
- Commitment to safeguarding and child protection policies
Preferred
- Experience in managing a school or leading a department
- Knowledge of curriculum development and assessment strategies
- Experience with pastoral care and behaviour management in a therapeutic environment
- Experience working with students who have complex needs
