Deputy Headteacher Pastoral and DSL Primary role with a focus on safeguarding and wellbeing.

The Opportunity:

As Deputy Headteacher Pastoral and DSL Primary, you will lead safeguarding and pastoral care across the Primary School, shaping a nurturing environment where pupils thrive. This role requires strategic leadership and a visible, relational presence to support the whole child.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead safeguarding and child protection across the Primary School in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE)
  • Develop and implement pastoral strategies to support behaviour, attendance, wellbeing and mental health
  • Coordinate counselling and medical provision, working closely with parents, school nurses, and external agencies
  • Oversee the pastoral curriculum, including PHSE and wellbeing provision
  • Support and develop staff through coaching, performance management, and INSET
  • Work closely with Assistant Heads, Year Group Leaders, and the wider Primary Leadership Team to deliver outstanding pastoral care
  • Deputise for the Vice Principal & Head of Primary as required, including leading meetings and engaging with parents
  • Contribute to whole-school leadership, including health and safety, safeguarding governance, and EDI initiatives

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience in leading safeguarding and child protection in a school setting
  • Strong leadership and management experience within education
  • Proven ability to develop and implement pastoral strategies
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Qualified teacher with experience in primary education

Preferred

  • Experience in a senior leadership role within a school
  • Knowledge of Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE)
  • Experience with pastoral curriculum development
  • Experience in behaviour management and mental health support
  • Experience in supporting staff development and INSET delivery
