The Opportunity:

As a Deputy SENCO, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special educational needs and ensuring they have the resources and opportunities to succeed. Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the strategic development and implementation of special educational needs policy and provision
  • Support the day-to-day coordination of SEN provision and ensure individual pupils receive appropriate support
  • Provide expert guidance to staff, parents, and external agencies on SEN-related matters
  • Review and support the development of education, health and care (EHC) plans with parents and pupils
  • Promote inclusion and ensure all pupils have access to the curriculum and school activities
  • Work closely with the SENCO to evaluate and improve SEN provision through self-evaluation and development planning
  • Ensure compliance with the Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and deliver training on SEN-related topics

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A good honours degree and Qualified Teacher Status
  • Either a National Award in SEN Coordination or a National professional qualification (NPQ) for SENCOs, or a willingness to complete it within 3 years of appointment
  • Experience working with children with a range of special educational needs
  • Knowledge of the Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice

Preferred

  • Experience in self-evaluation and development planning
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Experience in coordinating SEN provision in a school setting
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
