The Opportunity:

As the Deputy SENCO, you will play a key role in supporting the school’s commitment to inclusion and special educational needs. This is a vital leadership position that will have a direct impact on student outcomes and staff development across the school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the SENCO in developing and implementing strategies for special educational needs and inclusion.
  • Coordinate with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to ensure effective support for students with additional needs.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of students with special educational needs and report findings to senior leadership.
  • Provide guidance and training to staff on inclusive teaching practices and SEN policy.
  • Work closely with parents and carers to support student learning and well-being.
  • Contribute to the development of the school’s SEN policy and ensure it aligns with best practice and legal requirements.
  • Manage and oversee the allocation of SEN resources and support within the school.
  • Promote a culture of inclusion and ensure all students have access to high-quality education.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Relevant experience in special educational needs and inclusion.
  • Strong leadership and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.

Preferred

  • Experience in a SENCO or deputy SENCO role.
  • Postgraduate qualification in special educational needs or related field.
  • Experience with inclusive teaching strategies and SEN policy development.
  • Knowledge of current legislation and guidance relating to SEN and disability.
