The Opportunity:

As a Design and Technology Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting teaching staff and students in the use of a wide range of machinery, processes, and materials. This is an opportunity to contribute to a dynamic and innovative learning environment that values technical expertise and hands-on support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain a wide range of D&T equipment, including wood, metal, and plastic machinery.
  • Assist with technical demonstrations and provide support to teaching staff and students during practical sessions.
  • Ensure the safe and efficient use of all equipment, following health and safety procedures.
  • Monitor and manage resource levels within budget to support departmental needs.
  • Oversee the use of electronic test equipment and ICT tools, including CAD/CAM systems.
  • Support the setup and operation of machinery such as lathes, milling machines, and welding equipment.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Department to ensure the smooth running of the D&T department.
  • Stay up to date with industry best practices and contribute to the continuous improvement of the department’s technical capabilities.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Strong workshop and workshop management experience, ideally in an industrial, mechanical, or engineering environment.
  • Experience with hand and machine tools, including wood/metal lathes, milling machines, and welding equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to use ICT and CAD/CAM systems or a willingness to undergo training.
  • Commitment to health and safety procedures in a technical environment.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including during school holidays and with variable daily start and finish times.

Preferred

  • Experience in a school or educational setting, particularly in a D&T or similar department.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Willingness to undergo child protection screening and safer recruitment checks.
