Job Description

Summary:

Director of English needed to lead curriculum and improve student outcomes across the Trust.

The Opportunity:

As a Director of English, you will play a key role in shaping the quality of English provision across the Trust. You will work collaboratively with senior and subject leadership teams to drive improvement, raise standards, and ensure consistent delivery of high-quality teaching and learning in English.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the development of the English curriculum across assigned academies.
  • Analyse performance data to identify areas for improvement and implement targeted interventions.
  • Deliver high-quality lessons and support colleagues in delivering effective teaching and learning.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to ensure alignment with Trust-wide priorities and improvement goals.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, ensuring consistent standards of teaching and learning across the Trust.
  • Provide professional development and guidance to subject teams to enhance teaching practices.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement strategies that improve student attainment and outcomes.
  • Ensure that assessment practices are robust and aligned with Trust and national standards.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role within education, preferably in English.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and support teams.
  • Excellent knowledge of the English curriculum and assessment practices.
  • Experience in driving improvement and raising standards in a school or multi-academy trust setting.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and use performance data effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with senior leadership and subject teams.

Preferred

  • Experience in managing a team of subject leaders or teachers.
  • Experience with curriculum design and development.
  • Experience in leading or contributing to school improvement initiatives.
  • Experience with teaching and learning strategies that support student progress and attainment.
  • Experience in working within a multi-academy trust environment.
