The Opportunity:

As the Director of Finance and Operations, you will be instrumental in leading the financial and operational strategy of a growing education organisation. This role is pivotal in ensuring the school’s long-term sustainability, compliance, and growth while supporting the well-being and success of every student.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise senior leadership and boards on strategic financial and operational decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and governance standards.
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and payroll management.
  • Lead and develop the finance team to maintain efficiency and professional growth.
  • Implement and optimise digital finance systems (e.g., Xero, ApprovalMax).
  • Manage operational areas including estates, procurement, contracts, and health and safety.
  • Oversee capital projects and site developments to support organisational expansion.
  • Ensure readiness for Ofsted inspections and external audits.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in senior finance and operations leadership, preferably in education or multi-site organisations.
  • Strong background in financial management, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Experience in leading and developing teams with a focus on accountability and growth.
  • Ability to provide strategic insight to boards and senior leaders.
  • Proficiency in digital finance systems and strong analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of operational management including compliance, risk, and procurement.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership abilities.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child welfare.
  • Willingness to complete an Enhanced DBS check.

Preferred

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or AAT with senior experience).
  • Experience in Alternative Provision, SEMH, or Independent Schools.
  • Experience managing DfE registration, Ofsted readiness, or capital projects.
  • Familiarity with HR/compliance advisory systems (e.g., Peninsula).
