The Opportunity:
As the Director of Finance and Operations, you will be instrumental in leading the financial and operational strategy of a growing education organisation. This role is pivotal in ensuring the school’s long-term sustainability, compliance, and growth while supporting the well-being and success of every student.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise senior leadership and boards on strategic financial and operational decisions.
- Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and governance standards.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and payroll management.
- Lead and develop the finance team to maintain efficiency and professional growth.
- Implement and optimise digital finance systems (e.g., Xero, ApprovalMax).
- Manage operational areas including estates, procurement, contracts, and health and safety.
- Oversee capital projects and site developments to support organisational expansion.
- Ensure readiness for Ofsted inspections and external audits.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in senior finance and operations leadership, preferably in education or multi-site organisations.
- Strong background in financial management, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Experience in leading and developing teams with a focus on accountability and growth.
- Ability to provide strategic insight to boards and senior leaders.
- Proficiency in digital finance systems and strong analytical skills.
- Knowledge of operational management including compliance, risk, and procurement.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership abilities.
- Commitment to safeguarding and child welfare.
- Willingness to complete an Enhanced DBS check.
Preferred
- Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or AAT with senior experience).
- Experience in Alternative Provision, SEMH, or Independent Schools.
- Experience managing DfE registration, Ofsted readiness, or capital projects.
- Familiarity with HR/compliance advisory systems (e.g., Peninsula).
Compensation & Benefits:
- Competitive salary between £65,000 and £80,000.
