The Opportunity:

As the Director of Finance, you will lead the financial strategy and operations of a successful 16 to 19 institution. This role offers the chance to shape financial decisions that impact student outcomes, infrastructure, and sustainability, while enjoying a flexible working pattern and a supportive team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting, and statutory reporting.
  • Oversee financial operations including payroll, pensions, procurement, and compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
  • Provide strategic oversight of estates, capital development, health and safety, and environmental sustainability.
  • Manage and lead a high-performing finance team while collaborating with senior leaders and external stakeholders.
  • Deliver financial clarity and insight to non-finance colleagues and boards, supporting confident decision-making.
  • Ensure smooth financial operations across the school, from internal reporting to board-level communication.
  • Support funding bids and compliance projects, ensuring alignment with the school’s strategic goals.
  • Maintain strong relationships with governors, external auditors, and financial stakeholders.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent).
  • Proven leadership experience in a senior finance role within a similar organisation.
  • Strong expertise in budgeting, forecasting, statutory accounts, and financial reporting.
  • Experience managing a small, high-performing finance team.
  • Ability to balance strategic input with hands-on operational delivery.

Preferred

  • Experience in strategic oversight of health and safety and environmental sustainability.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Values-driven approach aligned with principles of inclusion, community, and empowerment.
  • Experience in a school or education setting.
