The Opportunity:
As the Director of Finance, you will lead the financial strategy and operations of a successful 16 to 19 institution. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop the financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting, and statutory reporting.
- Oversee financial operations including payroll, pensions, procurement, and compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
- Provide strategic oversight of estates, capital development, health and safety, and environmental sustainability.
- Manage and lead a high-performing finance team while collaborating with senior leaders and external stakeholders.
- Deliver financial clarity and insight to non-finance colleagues and boards, supporting confident decision-making.
- Ensure smooth financial operations across the school, from internal reporting to board-level communication.
- Support funding bids and compliance projects, ensuring alignment with the school’s strategic goals.
- Maintain strong relationships with governors, external auditors, and financial stakeholders.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent).
- Proven leadership experience in a senior finance role within a similar organisation.
- Strong expertise in budgeting, forecasting, statutory accounts, and financial reporting.
- Experience managing a small, high-performing finance team.
- Ability to balance strategic input with hands-on operational delivery.
Preferred
- Experience in strategic oversight of health and safety and environmental sustainability.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Values-driven approach aligned with principles of inclusion, community, and empowerment.
- Experience in a school or education setting.
