The Opportunity:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Music to lead the Senior School Music Department. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the musical future of students and contribute to a vibrant, performance-driven school culture. The ideal candidate will have a passion for music and a proven ability to lead and inspire.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the Senior School Music Department, overseeing both curricular and co-curricular music programs.
  • Manage and support a range of ensembles, including choirs, orchestras, and bands, ensuring high standards of performance and participation.
  • Collaborate with Heads of Strings, Pipe Band, and Wind, Brass and Percussion to deliver a cohesive and impactful music program.
  • Organize and supervise performance opportunities, including biennial concerts, school productions, and external competitions.
  • Provide instrumental and vocal instruction, working alongside visiting teachers and supporting students in ABRSM and TCL exams.
  • Foster a culture of inclusion and excellence in music, with a focus on developing the talents of all students.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A relevant degree from a recognised university and a post-graduate teaching qualification.
  • Proven experience teaching music to children or young people.
  • Strong leadership and team-working skills.
  • Experience in managing and leading a music department.
  • Excellent communication and organisational abilities.

Preferred

  • Experience in conducting or directing choirs, orchestras, or ensembles.
  • Familiarity with music technology and software such as Notion, Musescore, and Garageband.
  • Experience in preparing students for competitive music festivals and examinations.
  • Ability to provide piano accompaniment at sight with minimal preparation time.
