The Opportunity:

We are seeking a passionate and visionary Director of Music to lead the music department and inspire students across all year groups. This role offers the opportunity to shape a dynamic and inclusive music programme that supports both academic and performance excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the music department, ensuring high-quality teaching and performance opportunities for all students.
  • Develop and implement a forward-thinking music curriculum that aligns with academic and co-curricular goals.
  • Supervise a team of full-time and part-time staff, including a Music Technician and Visiting Music Teachers.
  • Collaborate with other Heads of Department to integrate music into the broader school life and co-curricular programme.
  • Promote a culture of musical excellence through performance, enrichment activities, and community engagement.
  • Ensure the smooth running of the department, including the management of events, recitals, and productions.
  • Support the professional development of staff and identify training needs.
  • Oversee the delivery of music education at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, and lead by example as an outstanding classroom practitioner.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A relevant degree and experience teaching at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.
  • Strong academic credentials and proven leadership in music education.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Experience in choral or orchestral music, or a keen interest in musical theatre.
  • Ability to manage a team and deliver high-quality music education and performance opportunities.

Preferred

  • Accompanying experience to diploma level.
  • Experience with the Eduqas (WJEC) exam board for Music.
  • Experience in leading and managing music departments in an educational setting.
  • A progressive and broad understanding of musical genres and performance styles.
