The Opportunity:

As the Director of Music, you will lead a dynamic and growing department, teaching Music in KS3 and KS4, and potentially KS5. The role offers the opportunity to expand your impact through extra-curricular activities, curriculum development, and collaboration with other departments. Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach Music in Key Stages 3 and 4 with the potential to introduce KS5 as demand increases.
  • Develop and implement high-quality, differentiated schemes of learning and resources.
  • Prepare students for Music GCSE and A level with a focus on attainment and progression.
  • Lead and expand the school’s strong extra-curricular music program, including choirs, orchestras, and instrumental lessons.
  • Collaborate with the drama department on the annual musical theatre production.
  • Supervise and support visiting peripatetic instrumental teachers.
  • Promote the integration of music technology across the curriculum.
  • Encourage and develop both choral and instrumental performance opportunities.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A relevant good honours degree.
  • Proficiency as a pianist.
  • Experience in teaching Music in a secondary school setting.
  • Commitment to developing both choral and instrumental work.
  • Experience in either the private or maintained education system.
  • Strong organisational and leadership skills.
  • A passion for Music and a commitment to raising pupil attainment.

Preferred

  • Experience in curriculum development or resource creation.
  • Background in music technology or digital music production.
  • Experience in leading extra-curricular music programs.
  • Experience in directing or collaborating on musical theatre productions.
  • Strong knowledge of the latest teaching methodologies and assessment strategies.
