The Opportunity:

As Director of Science, you will lead a dynamic and growing department and play a key role in shaping the future of science education at the school. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced leader to drive improvement and inspire both students and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the science department to ensure high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement strategies to raise student achievement and attainment in science.
  • Support and mentor science teachers to enhance their professional development.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to contribute to the overall strategic direction of the school.
  • Promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement in science education.
  • Ensure the science curriculum aligns with the school’s vision and values.
  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate science across the curriculum where appropriate.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of the science department and report regularly to senior leadership.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role within a secondary school setting.
  • Demonstrated success in raising standards in science education.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
  • In-depth knowledge of science curriculum and pedagogy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred

  • Experience of working within a Multi Academy Trust or similar structure.
  • Experience of leading curriculum development and innovation.
  • Familiarity with the “Discipline for Learning” programme and similar initiatives.
  • Experience in student engagement and enrichment activities.
