DT Technician - Full Time role with emphasis on practical learning and technical support.

The Opportunity:

As a DT Technician, you will play a key role in maintaining a safe, inspiring, and functional workshop environment that supports hands-on learning. This role is essential in helping students develop practical skills, creativity, and confidence through Design & Technology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, organise, and set up materials, components, and equipment for lessons.
  • Support pupils during practical activities where appropriate.
  • Ensure all machinery, tools, and equipment are well maintained and safe to use.
  • Manage maintenance schedules and arrange servicing or repairs.
  • Uphold rigorous Health & Safety standards across the workshop.
  • Monitor stock, order materials, and manage supplier relationships.
  • Keep DT spaces tidy, organised, and conducive to effective learning.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff to support lesson delivery and department development.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience working as a DT Technician or in a similar technical role, either in education or industry.
  • Strong working knowledge of Health & Safety regulations in a workshop environment.
  • Confidence operating and maintaining a range of machinery, tools, and materials.
  • Excellent organisation, time management, and attention to detail.
  • A proactive, positive approach and the ability to remain calm in a busy environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the willingness to work collaboratively as part of a small, supportive team.
  • A commitment to creating a safe, productive, and inspiring learning space.

Preferred

  • Experience in a school or further education setting.
  • Familiarity with a wide range of workshop tools and equipment.
  • Previous experience in a small, close-knit team environment.
  • Passion for supporting young people’s practical learning and development.
