The Opportunity:
As an EAL Teaching Assistant, you will provide essential support to students learning English as an Additional Language. You will help them access the curriculum, develop language skills, and thrive in a diverse and inclusive learning environment. This is a key role in supporting student success and inclusion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver targeted interventions to individuals and small groups of students.
- Support students in mainstream lessons to ensure they can access the curriculum.
- Work closely with teachers and inclusion leads to adapt resources and monitor progress.
- Promote an inclusive learning environment that celebrates linguistic and cultural diversity.
- Use ICT tools to support learning and maintain accurate records.
- Assist in the development of tailored learning strategies for EAL students.
- Contribute to the school’s commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Experience working with secondary school students.
- Experience supporting learners with EAL.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a commitment to inclusion.
- Knowledge of safeguarding practices.
- Competence in using ICT to support learning and maintain records.
Preferred
- Knowledge of additional languages.
- Experience with teaching or supporting students in a multicultural setting.
- Experience with curriculum adaptation for EAL learners.
