The Opportunity:

As an English Subject Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in driving student outcomes and leading the development of the English department. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher to take on a leadership role and contribute to the strategic growth of the department and the wider school community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspire and motivate staff and students, maintaining the highest standards in teaching and learning.
  • Lead the development of curriculum areas, teaching strategies, and feedback practices within the English department.
  • Ensure pupil progress is regularly assessed and that a collaborative team ethos is maintained across the school.
  • Raise the profile of the English curriculum and extra-curricular activities, driving engagement and attainment.
  • Demonstrate excellent classroom management and teaching skills, delivering high-quality lessons across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
  • Support the professional development of the English team and contribute to the strategic direction of the department.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, leaders, and students to enhance the learning experience and achievement of all pupils.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience as a teacher of English at Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
  • Ability to teach across the full ability and age range.
  • Strong leadership and team-working skills.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in departmental leadership or middle management.
  • Familiarity with curriculum development and assessment strategies.
  • Experience with Teaching English as a Second Language (TEFL) or similar.
  • Knowledge of education frameworks such as Making Every Lesson Count.
