The Opportunity:
As Financial Controller, you will lead the financial operations of a dynamic and mission-driven institution. This role is ideal for an experienced professional looking to combine strategic vision with hands-on delivery, ensuring robust financial governance and enabling key investment decisions that shape the future of the school.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the school’s financial operations, ensuring full compliance with charity law, VAT legislation, and internal governance.
- Prepare accurate management and statutory accounts in line with FRS102 and SORP, delivering clear and timely reports to the Trustees.
- Manage VAT compliance under PESM and the Capital Goods Scheme, liaising with HMRC and representing the school during inspections.
- Oversee treasury management and maintain strong banking relationships.
- Drive and manage the annual audit process, ensuring strong internal controls and compliance.
- Lead, develop, and mentor a team of five, fostering a high-performing culture of collaboration and excellence.
- Deliver financial insights and modelling to support strategic projects and income diversification across the school.
- Act as a trusted partner to the Finance Director, contributing to strategic planning and operational delivery.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified (or equivalent).
- Strong technical knowledge of charity accounting and VAT legislation.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with finance systems.
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to inspire and develop a team.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Preferred
- Experience in charity accounting and VAT compliance within a complex organisation.
- Experience with financial modelling and strategic planning.
