The Opportunity:

A Functional Literacy and Numeracy Tutor is needed in the Surbiton area to provide targeted support to students with special educational needs. This role is ideal for experienced tutors who are passionate about making a meaningful impact in the lives of learners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality literacy and numeracy support to students with special educational needs (SEN)
  • Apply the Bright Heart Approach, focusing on building trust, self-esteem, and academic confidence
  • Collaborate with parents, schools, and other professionals to support student progress
  • Develop and implement individual learning plans tailored to student needs
  • Provide regular feedback to stakeholders on student development and progress
  • Attend training and professional development sessions to enhance tutoring skills
  • Ensure all safeguarding and child protection policies are strictly followed
  • Maintain accurate records and report on student outcomes

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • At least 12 months of relevant tutoring and/or teaching experience in the UK
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • Strong subject knowledge in literacy and numeracy
  • Current Enhanced DBS certificate (with a check of the children’s barred list)
  • Ability to work with students with special educational needs (SEN)
  • Availability for daytime tutoring sessions in the Surbiton area

Preferred

  • Experience with the Bright Heart Approach or similar student-centred tutoring methods
  • Previous experience working with students with complex SEN or SEMH needs
  • Experience in developing and delivering individual learning plans (ILPs)
  • Familiarity with online and in-person tutoring formats
  • Passion for education and making a positive impact on students’ lives
