The Opportunity:
We are seeking a Functional Skills Tutor to support students in the Guildford area, with a focus on those with severe SEN. Afternoon availability is essential, and the role offers flexibility and competitive rates for experienced tutors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality Functional Skills tuition to students with special educational needs
- Follow the Bright Heart Approach to build trust, confidence, and self-belief in students
- Develop individual learning plans tailored to each student’s needs
- Communicate regularly with parents, schools, and education consultants
- Attend ongoing training and professional development sessions
- Ensure a safe and supportive learning environment for all students
- Maintain accurate records and provide progress reports
- Collaborate with other tutors and education professionals to support student development
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- At least 12 months of relevant tutoring or teaching experience in the UK
- Excellent spoken and written English
- Strong subject knowledge in Functional Skills
- A university qualification or currently studying towards one
- A valid Enhanced DBS certificate with a check of the children’s barred list
- Experience working with students with severe SEN
Preferred
- Experience with the Bright Heart Approach or similar student-centred methodologies
- Previous experience with supplementary or interim education
- Familiarity with study techniques and life skills development
- Experience with online or in-person tutoring
