Functional Skills Tutor needed in Guildford with SEN experience.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a Functional Skills Tutor to support students in the Guildford area, with a focus on those with severe SEN. Afternoon availability is essential, and the role offers flexibility and competitive rates for experienced tutors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality Functional Skills tuition to students with special educational needs
  • Follow the Bright Heart Approach to build trust, confidence, and self-belief in students
  • Develop individual learning plans tailored to each student’s needs
  • Communicate regularly with parents, schools, and education consultants
  • Attend ongoing training and professional development sessions
  • Ensure a safe and supportive learning environment for all students
  • Maintain accurate records and provide progress reports
  • Collaborate with other tutors and education professionals to support student development

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • At least 12 months of relevant tutoring or teaching experience in the UK
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • Strong subject knowledge in Functional Skills
  • A university qualification or currently studying towards one
  • A valid Enhanced DBS certificate with a check of the children’s barred list
  • Experience working with students with severe SEN

Preferred

  • Experience with the Bright Heart Approach or similar student-centred methodologies
  • Previous experience with supplementary or interim education
  • Familiarity with study techniques and life skills development
  • Experience with online or in-person tutoring
