The Opportunity:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and inspiring Geography Teacher to join our thriving Humanities Faculty on a maternity cover basis from April 2026. The successful candidate will be passionate about Geography and committed to delivering high-quality teaching and learning across a range of abilities and age groups.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and challenging lessons in Geography, including A Level, SQA Higher/Advanced Higher, and relevant vocational or applied pathways.
- Support pupils in developing the analytical, evaluative, and fieldwork skills essential for strong attainment in Geography courses.
- Assess, record, and report on the progress and attainment of pupils in accordance with Faculty and school policies.
- Contribute to the continued development of schemes of work, resources, and teaching strategies within the Geography context.
- Maintain high expectations for pupil achievement and behaviour, fostering a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
- Participate fully in departmental and Faculty meetings, collaborative planning, and professional development opportunities.
- Contribute to the wider life of the school through involvement in co-curricular activities, clubs, trips, and events, including fieldwork where appropriate.
- Engage in continual professional reflection to enhance teaching practice and support departmental improvement.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- A good honours degree in Geography or a closely related discipline.
- Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE or equivalent).
- Proven experience teaching Geography at A Level.
- Experience of teaching SQA Higher and Advanced Higher Geography.
- Strong subject knowledge and understanding of current curriculum developments in Geography.
- Evidence of delivering consistently high-quality teaching and learning.
Preferred
- Experience of teaching across a range of examination boards and specifications.
- Experience of teaching BTEC Countryside Management.
- Familiarity with AQA A Level Geography specifications.
- Experience in planning and delivering geographical fieldwork.
- Experience in using technology, GIS, or digital tools to enhance learning.
- Experience in contributing to departmental development or curriculum innovation.
- Experience with the Google Suite.
