The Opportunity:

As the Head of Biology, you will lead a high-performing department and drive excellence in teaching and learning. This is a strategic role that offers the opportunity to shape curriculum delivery and inspire the next generation of scientists.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the Biology curriculum across Key Stages 3 to 5
  • Drive outstanding teaching and learning outcomes
  • Use performance data to identify and implement improvements
  • Manage and develop departmental colleagues
  • Oversee departmental improvement planning and quality assurance
  • Contribute to whole-school priorities and initiatives
  • Lead an engaging extra-curricular and enrichment programme
  • Ensure a strong focus on practical work and academic depth

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a strong honours degree in a related subject
  • Experience teaching Biology at Key Stage 5 and Science across Key Stages 3 and 4
  • Ability to lead and manage a department effectively
  • Commitment to safeguarding and inclusion
  • Strong organisational and reflective skills

Preferred

  • Experience in curriculum leadership or departmental management
  • Background in delivering high-quality CPD and professional development
  • Experience with AQA Biology qualifications
  • Involvement in outreach, university visits or enrichment programmes
