About the School:

A school located in South Oxfordshire, near Wallingford, offers a nurturing environment for students aged 3 to 13. The school is transitioning to full co-education and places a strong emphasis on pastoral care and extra-curricular activities.

The Opportunity:

As the Head of Boarding, you will play a pivotal role in the pastoral care and welfare of boarders, ensuring their well-being and success. The role includes a teaching component and the opportunity to contribute to various aspects of school life, including sport. This is a residential position with family accommodation provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the pastoral care and welfare of all boarders, ensuring a supportive and nurturing environment.
  • Deliver teaching across an adjusted timetable, contributing to the academic and personal development of students.
  • Support the transition to co-educational boarding, including the integration of girls into the boarding community.
  • Foster a strong sense of community within the boarding house and across the school.
  • Collaborate with staff and parents to ensure the well-being and progress of boarders.
  • Promote the school’s extra-curricular ethos, including sport, music, and other activities.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the boarding house, including supervision and pastoral support.
  • Act as a key liaison between the boarding community and the wider school.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven experience in pastoral care and student welfare.
  • Strong teaching experience, ideally within a school setting.
  • Ability to manage and lead a team effectively.
  • A caring and compassionate disposition.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Preferred

  • Experience in boarding or residential education.
  • Coaching or sports leadership experience.
  • Familiarity with the transition to co-educational settings.
  • Experience with the UK education system, particularly in independent schools.
  • A passion for extra-curricular activities and student development.
