The Opportunity:

As Head of Classics, you will lead a team of nine teachers and play a pivotal role in shaping the learning experience for talented pupils from Year 7 to the sixth form. This is an opportunity to inspire a passion for Classics and contribute to a school that values academic excellence, curiosity, and enrichment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of Classics teachers, fostering a supportive and collaborative environment.
  • Deliver high-quality teaching and learning across a range of year groups, including A level and IB programmes.
  • Develop and implement the curriculum, ensuring it meets the highest standards and aligns with syllabus requirements.
  • Promote a culture of equality, diversity, and inclusion within the department and across the school.
  • Support and mentor staff, encouraging professional development and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to the school’s co-curricular programme, enhancing student engagement and enrichment.
  • Maintain strong pastoral care and support for all pupils, ensuring their well-being and academic success.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents to build strong relationships and a shared vision.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Strong subject knowledge in Classics and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Experience in middle leadership or the ability to demonstrate strong leadership potential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • A commitment to academic excellence, pastoral care, and the promotion of the school’s values.
  • Strong organisational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and take initiative in departmental leadership.

Preferred

  • Prior experience in middle leadership roles.
  • Experience with teaching Latin and Greek at A level and IB.
  • Involvement in co-curricular activities and school life beyond the classroom.
