The Opportunity:
As Head of Design Technology, you will lead a passionate department and inspire students to excel in a subject that blends creativity with practical skills. This role is central to delivering a world-class education and fostering a culture of innovation and achievement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Design Technology department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning experiences.
- Teach pupils according to their educational needs, setting and marking work effectively.
- Assess, record, and report on pupil progress, attendance, and attainment in line with school policies.
- Ensure Literacy and Numeracy are embedded in the curriculum and learning experiences.
- Prepare and update subject materials and schemes of learning to meet curriculum standards.
- Use a variety of teaching methods to engage and challenge students.
- Maintain discipline and encourage good behavior, punctuality, and standards of work.
- Contribute to the school’s marketing and liaison activities, including Open Evenings and parent events.
- Manage resources and equipment within the Creative Department effectively.
- Track pupil progress and use assessment data to set subject targets and monitor achievement.
- Support the school’s mission and ethos, promoting its values among staff and pupils.
- Ensure all duties align with the school’s Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety, and Child Protection policies.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in teaching and leading a Design Technology department.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to line manage staff.
- Excellent knowledge of curriculum standards and assessment practices.
- Ability to use SIMS, CPOMS, and Edulink systems effectively.
- Commitment to safeguarding and child protection.
- Experience in promoting a positive school image through community and external engagement.
Preferred
- Experience in using restorative practices to support student relationships.
- Background in marketing or liaison activities within an educational setting.
- Familiarity with managing resources and equipment in a creative environment.
- Experience in developing and implementing CPD programs for staff.
