The Opportunity:

As Head of Design Technology, you will lead a passionate department and inspire students to excel in a subject that blends creativity with practical skills. This role is central to delivering a world-class education and fostering a culture of innovation and achievement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Design Technology department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning experiences.
  • Teach pupils according to their educational needs, setting and marking work effectively.
  • Assess, record, and report on pupil progress, attendance, and attainment in line with school policies.
  • Ensure Literacy and Numeracy are embedded in the curriculum and learning experiences.
  • Prepare and update subject materials and schemes of learning to meet curriculum standards.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods to engage and challenge students.
  • Maintain discipline and encourage good behavior, punctuality, and standards of work.
  • Contribute to the school’s marketing and liaison activities, including Open Evenings and parent events.
  • Manage resources and equipment within the Creative Department effectively.
  • Track pupil progress and use assessment data to set subject targets and monitor achievement.
  • Support the school’s mission and ethos, promoting its values among staff and pupils.
  • Ensure all duties align with the school’s Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety, and Child Protection policies.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in teaching and leading a Design Technology department.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to line manage staff.
  • Excellent knowledge of curriculum standards and assessment practices.
  • Ability to use SIMS, CPOMS, and Edulink systems effectively.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child protection.
  • Experience in promoting a positive school image through community and external engagement.

Preferred

  • Experience in using restorative practices to support student relationships.
  • Background in marketing or liaison activities within an educational setting.
  • Familiarity with managing resources and equipment in a creative environment.
  • Experience in developing and implementing CPD programs for staff.
