Head of English and MFL to lead language faculty at a growing international school in Wuxi, China.

The Opportunity:

As the Head of English and MFL, you will lead the language faculty, ensuring excellence in teaching and learning across IGCSE and IB DP programs. This role is ideal for a passionate educator who wants to shape confident, articulate, and culturally aware learners in a dynamic, international environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic and academic leadership to the English and MFL departments.
  • Ensure high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment across IGCSE and IB DP programs.
  • Develop and implement innovative curriculum strategies for English, ESL, and Modern Foreign Languages.
  • Support and mentor teaching staff to enhance pedagogical practices and student outcomes.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align departmental goals with the school’s educational vision.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes student engagement and progress.
  • Monitor and analyze student performance data to inform teaching and learning strategies.
  • Promote cultural awareness and language proficiency across the school community.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred
  • Strong academic background in English or Modern Foreign Languages
  • 7+ years of post-qualification teaching experience, including IGCSE EAL
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve high levels of student progress across a range of EAL learners
  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment
  • Ability to work effectively in a dual language immersion and multicultural environment
  • Strong communication and leadership skills

Preferred

  • Experience with IBDP programs
  • Formal EAL qualification (e.g., CELTA/DELTA)
  • Experience in a school with a co-curricular and pastoral focus
  • Proficiency in multiple languages (e.g., French, Spanish)
