The Opportunity:

As a Head of English, you will lead the strategic direction of English teaching and learning from KS3 through to IBDP, ensuring outstanding academic outcomes and empowering students to become confident and proficient users of English.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a high-quality English curriculum that aligns with international standards.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to a team of English teachers, supporting their professional development.
  • Ensure consistent quality assurance and best practice across the English department.
  • Champion a whole-school literacy strategy, working collaboratively with all departments to improve English proficiency.
  • Deliver targeted support for EAL students and native speakers to succeed in IGCSE and IBDP English.
  • Promote a culture of innovation, collaboration, and shared best practice across the school.
  • Work closely with the secondary leadership team to maintain a broad and balanced curriculum.
  • Encourage student engagement and creativity through purposeful feedback and development.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, BEd; HDipEd or equivalent).
  • Current Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure for all countries lived in.
  • Compliance with visa requirements for working in China.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all students.
  • Proven track record in English teaching experience.

Preferred

  • Experience teaching IGCSE and IBDP English.
  • Leadership experience in a school or educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of international curricula and assessment frameworks.
