The Opportunity:

As the Head of English, you will lead the delivery of a challenging and well-balanced curriculum across the school, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning. This role offers the opportunity to shape the educational experience of young girls and contribute to a school known for its academic excellence and holistic development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and oversee the planning, teaching, and resources for English across the school.
  • Develop a cohesive and effective scheme of work that supports continuity and progression in learning.
  • Monitor and evaluate teaching practices, providing feedback to the Senior Leadership Team to maintain academic rigor.
  • Deliver stimulating and engaging lessons that meet the needs of all pupils and promote a love of learning.
  • Implement school policies and ensure the accurate recording and monitoring of student progress.
  • Foster a learning environment that supports the development of self-esteem and interpersonal skills.
  • Ensure the safety, welfare, and wellbeing of all pupils in accordance with school policies.
  • Comply with safeguarding procedures and report any concerns as required.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Teaching qualification and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience in teaching English across the primary age range with a proven track record of student progress
  • Ability to use a variety of teaching and learning strategies
  • Strong organisational and management skills
  • Deep subject knowledge to challenge and support high-achieving students
  • Understanding of curriculum developments in English

Preferred

  • Experience in girls-only education
  • Knowledge of the London Independent day school system
