The Opportunity:

As the Head of English, you will lead a passionate team of educators and shape the delivery of high-quality English education across all key stages. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on student learning and to drive a culture of excellence within the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the English department to ensure high-quality teaching and learning across all key stages.
  • Develop and implement a cohesive curriculum that inspires a love of language and literature.
  • Collaborate with other department heads to ensure a joined-up approach to teaching and learning.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners to enhance student experiences and learning opportunities.
  • Support and mentor teachers within the department to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress to ensure consistent academic achievement.
  • Represent the department at school-level meetings and contribute to strategic planning.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and achievement.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with a strong background in English education.
  • Experience in a leadership role within a school setting, preferably as a head of department.
  • Deep knowledge of the English curriculum and current pedagogical practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong leadership and management abilities.
  • Proven ability to motivate and inspire both students and colleagues.

Preferred

  • Experience in curriculum development and innovation.
  • Familiarity with assessment and examination systems.
  • Experience in working within a multi-academy trust or similar educational partnership.
  • Strong track record in staff development and team leadership.
  • Passion for promoting reading and literacy across the school.
