Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the English department to ensure high-quality teaching and learning across all key stages.
- Develop and implement a cohesive curriculum that inspires a love of language and literature.
- Collaborate with other department heads to ensure a joined-up approach to teaching and learning.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners to enhance student experiences and learning opportunities.
- Support and mentor teachers within the department to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- Monitor and evaluate student progress to ensure consistent academic achievement.
- Represent the department at school-level meetings and contribute to strategic planning.
- Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and achievement.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Qualified teacher with a strong background in English education.
- Experience in a leadership role within a school setting, preferably as a head of department.
- Deep knowledge of the English curriculum and current pedagogical practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong leadership and management abilities.
- Proven ability to motivate and inspire both students and colleagues.
Preferred
- Experience in curriculum development and innovation.
- Familiarity with assessment and examination systems.
- Experience in working within a multi-academy trust or similar educational partnership.
- Strong track record in staff development and team leadership.
- Passion for promoting reading and literacy across the school.
