The Opportunity:

As the Head of English, you will lead a dynamic and high-performing faculty, driving the delivery of a rigorous and inspiring English curriculum. You will play a key role in shaping student outcomes and fostering a culture of excellence, creativity, and lifelong learning in English and Media.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the strategic development and delivery of a challenging English curriculum across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
  • Implement high-quality teaching and learning strategies that raise achievement and maintain high standards in the classroom.
  • Drive robust, in-house Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and support the professional growth of the faculty team.
  • Champion the importance of literacy across the curriculum and lead engaging enrichment initiatives such as theatre trips and book swaps.
  • Oversee and develop the broader faculty provision, including the popular and growing Media Studies programme.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in leading a high-performing English department at a secondary level.
  • Strong track record in delivering excellent student outcomes and raising achievement in English.
  • Experience in curriculum development and strategic leadership across all key stages.
  • Ability to manage and develop a team of experienced and dedicated teachers.
  • Commitment to promoting literacy and student engagement through creative and innovative teaching methods.

Preferred

  • Experience with AQA and OCR English specifications.
  • Familiarity with the latest educational trends and curriculum developments.
  • Experience in leading enrichment initiatives and extracurricular activities in English.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with a proven ability to inspire and motivate staff and students.
